A Word of Introduction from Evan Collins

Dear Washington Avenue Christian Church,

Hello, this is Evan Collins, your new organist and pianist! I am very excited to provide music for WACC’s worship services.

I applied to Washington Avenue Christian Church because I appreciate what the church does for the Elyria community. I agree with the “energetic liturgical worship” philosophy, and it is also exciting to have an opportunity to work with Nathan Russell and Alan Petersen.

I was born in Elyria and have lived here my entire life. A recent graduate of Elyria High School, I served as the school’s chorus accompanist and also participated in the Band, Orchestra, and Drama departments and ensembles.

I was first introduced to Washington Avenue Christian Church when one of my high school choral groups, “The EHS Madrigal Singers,” provided music during one of your Advent services. Advent is an exciting time of year for the Madrigals because the group’s members have opportunities to experience worship in a variety of churches throughout the community. The music of the Kegg pipe organ filled me with joy and enthusiasm, and it was very exciting to return here each Advent season!

I will attend the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music this fall for Music Education with Organ as my primary instrument. I hope to become a band or choir director, continue serving as a church musician, and give recitals. My favorite styles of music are baroque chamber and sacred and contemporary sacred choral works. Works from these styles of music inspire me and fill me with joy.

I believe music can reach people in numerous ways and it is incredible to have the privilege to be able to enjoy music and share it with others! I have grown closer to my family, friends, and community through participating in different musical ensembles.

Some of my hobbies are studying languages and tending to my hosta garden.

I am thrilled to start a musical journey with Washington Avenue Christian Church!

Sincerely,

Evan Collins
