A Word from Pastor Nathan

Dear Friends:

On Monday, Washington Avenue Christian Church partnered with Cleveland Christian Home for its annual Golf Scramble for Kids at Elyria Country Club. What a great event! We were well represented throughout the Scramble. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • WACC golfers included Chris Bongiorno, Phil Bongiorno, Dan Clark, Vic Grindle, Jeff Gray, Debby & Chuck Lance, Bob Rieth, Janet Stevens-Brown & Richard Brown, David Stroup, Mark Wainwright, Nancy & Dan Walker, and Kimberly & Dennis Wilhelm. Though I am not a golfer—and should not use golf terms—I did hear that Board Chair Kimberly Wilhelm shot her first eagle, and Jeff Gray’s team came in second! Well done! Two couples (the Lances and Walkers) also celebrated their wedding anniversaries on the green.
  • A key to any fundraiser is the volunteers, and WACC showed up in style! Thank you, Glenna Knapp, Cindy Johnson, Lil & Carson McNeal, Sharon Siffert, Sheila Smith, Chris Thomas, Debbie Walker, and Gerald Western.
  • WACC sponsored a hole as well as the evening meal. The church’s name was on every dining table. When giving the invocation and opening remarks, my heart beamed with pride to say that I’m the pastor of WACC.
  • Through the generous support of corporate and individual sponsors—many of whom are members of WACC—the scramble raised more than $70,000! These funds provide hope and healing to approximately 500 children, youth, and families who are navigating realities of mental illness, abuse, and neglect.

The relationship between CCH and WACC spans decades. When we had our capital campaign in the early 2000s, we incorporated a tithe—part of which supported CCH. Through this gift, CCH was able to accomplish a major upgrade to its facility.

On the last Sunday in July (yes, this column is a month in advance), we will have a special offering that benefits Cleveland Christian Home. I have invited a CCH representative to be with us in worship that morning so that we can hear how our continued partnership will enable CCH to dare the impossible.

Thank you for your support of WACC and our outreach to ministries like CCH.

Peace abundant,

Nathan
