A Word from Debbie Walker

Dear Friends,

A new liturgical season is upon us. I love the season of Lent! This claim seems odd given the fact that we are supposed to be focusing on our need for redemption; however, there is more substance to Lent than we imagine. For example, in Lent there are no presents to buy, cards to send, lights to put up, parties to host, or special desserts to bake. Lent invites us to focus on our relationship with Christ. During these 40 days, we slow down and contemplate the sacrifice that was made for us and our life ’s response to that sacrifice.

Discovery Hour will be different this Lent as well! With developing our relationship to Christ in mind, each Sunday will focus on a different theme from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount:

  • Sunday, March 10: Beatitudes
  • Sunday, March 17: Salt and Light
  • Sunday, March 24: Prayer & Fasting
  • Sunday, March 31: Do Not Worry
  • Sunday, April 7: Judge Not
  • Sunday, April 14: Build on Rock

Lessons will follow a rotation format—an opening session featuring the day’s Bible story; rotating between two other sessions such as art, music, games, or food; and a closing session. Please join us as we (re)discover Jesus’ message for our lives this Lenten season.

I look forward to welcoming you to Discovery Hour at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 10!

Blessings to all,

Debbie Walker
