A Stimulus for the Future of Washington Avenue Christian Church

We write to you during Holy Week as we journey with Jesus from Palm Sunday through the week to Easter Sunday. We remember Jesus’ passion, his crucifixion, and, after three days of waiting, Christ’s resurrection. This season is also a momentous time for our congregation. We have marked more than a year of virtual gatherings. After a prolonged period of waiting, we will soon regather to worship with and alongside one another.

Many people have been economically impacted by the pandemic. Thankfully, there have been efforts through the CARES and Supplemental Appropriations Acts to address these economic hardships. At the same time, many people who have not been financially impacted by the pandemic have received stimulus funds. A friend of Washington Avenue wrote an anonymous letter suggesting we make an invitation for persons to contribute all or a portion of their stimulus checks to the church. We have taken this suggestion to heart and write with this exciting opportunity.

A Stimulus for the Future of Washington Avenue Christian Church is a limited campaign effort for our Main Trust, which is our primary permanent fund with the Christian Church Foundation. Each year this trust provides money for vital ministry, including Christian education opportunities, energetic worship, compassionate pastoral care, and justice-seeking outreach. As of this writing, we have five persons committed to this campaign, and our goal is to turn five into twenty-five. With your help, we can make a significant addition to the principal of the Main Trust, which will fuel the ministries of our church in perpetuity.

This campaign has a limited time frame, and it will conclude on August 31, 2021. We gratefully welcome any contribution to the campaign. To give toward this effort, please submit your donation with “Stimulus Campaign” as the memo.

As we near the end of the pandemic, we feel that A Stimulus for the Future of Washington Avenue will be a testament to resurrection that will inspire the faith of present and future generations of Disciples of Christ.

With hopeful anticipation,
The Permanent Funds Committee
