Preschool Director - Laverne Kelvington Stroup

The Washington Avenue Preschool has many distinguishing features which make it
one of the most desirable choices in Elyria for discriminating parents of three-, four- and five-year-old children.

The Staff
Laverne Stroup, also known as Town Clown, actually comes to school each day looking like a clown!
She has worked with preschoolers since 1967 and holds a four year degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English.
She has established two preschools in Elyria and has been a director since 1980.
Laverne is the author of a series of teacher resource books entitled “The Creative Factor.”
She has written curriculum for Christian Ed. Publishers (San Diego) and Christian Board of Publication (St. Louis).

Sandra Morgan, also known as Miss Sandee, began teaching at the Preschool in 2006.
Sandee is a retired first-grade teacher formerly with the Elyria City Schools, having taught at Roosevelt and Franklin Schools.
Miss Sandee received her education degree from Kent State University and has logged over 20 additional graduate hours since.
She brings a variety of talents to the children, including woodworking (her characters are on display at the ECS kindergarten village),
art, piano, bowling, ice skating, swimming, crafting knitting, and sewing.

Our Program
Each week's activities center around the “letter” or “number” of the week. Our curriculum is known for its creativity.
Each day we provide so much creative activity and play that our students need bags to carry home all their completed projects.
It has been said that this preschool truly has gone where no other preschool has gone before.

Special Notes
We do not go on field trips. Instead, we arrange for visitors to come to our center.
We feel your child's safety is more closely guarded by not leaving the center.
We encourage field trips led by parents with their children.
We do not serve snacks at our center, eliminating the possibility of upsetting your child's diet.
Our center is licensed to operate by the State of Ohio.
Our standards exceed the laws and rules governing the State of Ohio.
